Welcome

Welcome! Sit down, peruse these pages, and indulge in the stories my dolls arouse within your imagination...

Once Upon A Doll began with my own love of dolls, especially hand made. My kids and I collect, play with, and love our dolls, and eventually I began to make dolls of my own. Although my dolls are based upon the principles of Waldorf doll making--natural and sustainably harvested materials (like wool stuffing and cotton interlock), hand spun and dyed wool yarns for hair, hand made doll clothes, 100% wool felt for shoes--my dolls cannot be called strictly Waldorf (more Waldorf-esque), as they have definite personalities, larger & more expressive eyes, and playful mouths. Once Upon A Doll features enchanted dolls made in the Waldorf tradition with a storybook theme for that special child in your life or the discriminating collector of handmade dolls.

Meet Jack...a little boy who loves Nightmare Before Christmas

Meet Jack.

He’s a happy little boy with a sparkling personality who loves Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas and his little hand painted wooden Skellington friend most of all.

He is a handmade doll, crafted lovingly in the Waldorf-esque tradition. 13 inches from the top of his head to the bottom of his shoes, he wears QUITE the debonair ensemble: a colorful upcycled Jack Skellington themed t-shirt and embroidered jeans (by Nanerjoy), and a dapper black and white striped jacket with matching black bowtie(by Mollys Playground).

His lush iridescent hair is hand spun black merino wool with curly glistening rainbow yarn highlights! He is stuffed with clean carded local wool and his “skin” fabric is cotton interlock imported from Europe. His eyes and mouth are hand embroidered—notice that mischievous twinkle—and his black and white sneakers have Jack Skellington beads on them.

Jack is intended for adult collectors or children ages five and up, who do not put things in their mouths. His hair, shoes, and Skellington beads pose choking hazards.
I am busily making one more little boy for my upload in my Etsy shop this upcoming weekend…Jack’s friend who will join him in the upload is a boy doll named Charlie, and he LOVES to fish.
More to come soon,
Amy
