Welcome

Welcome! Sit down, peruse these pages, and indulge in the stories my dolls arouse within your imagination...

Once Upon A Doll began with my own love of dolls, especially hand made. My kids and I collect, play with, and love our dolls, and eventually I began to make dolls of my own. Although my dolls are based upon the principles of Waldorf doll making--natural and sustainably harvested materials (like wool stuffing and cotton interlock), hand spun and dyed wool yarns for hair, hand made doll clothes, 100% wool felt for shoes--my dolls cannot be called strictly Waldorf (more Waldorf-esque), as they have definite personalities, larger & more expressive eyes, and playful mouths. Once Upon A Doll features enchanted dolls made in the Waldorf tradition with a storybook theme for that special child in your life or the discriminating collector of handmade dolls.

Meet Kaylee...a custom doll from Joss Whedon's Firefly/ Serenity

Any browncoats here? Meet Kaylee, a very special custom doll for a Serenity/Firefly fan. Here she wears her "shiny" dress that she fell in love with in the series...I've even added a handmade bone pin that says her famous words "ooh shiny" when she sees all the fineries at her first formal party.
Kaylee's abundant hair has been carefully cut as true to her own style in the series as possible, and is an abundance of hand spun art yarn in many hues of shimmering brown and a few shiny strands of pink that "pop". (Handmade yarns by Rainbow Twist Shop and Luxfish)
Here we see Kaylee in her work attire on the ship, Serenity, where she is the mechanic...also a faithful reproduction of the parasol she uses in the show's pilot when she waits in front of the ship to lure paying passengers aboard. Both of Kaylee's outfits were handmade especially for her by Molly's Playground.
Here is the original Kaylee in her beloved party dress from the TV series.
And here is a close up of her face, hair, and work overalls with flowery pink shirt that she normally wore aboard ship.

Two more ready to go dolls in process--a Star Wars Fan Girl and King Tirian (the last king of Narnia).
Warmly,
Amy
