Welcome

Welcome! Sit down, peruse these pages, and indulge in the stories my dolls arouse within your imagination...

Once Upon A Doll began with my own love of dolls, especially hand made. My kids and I collect, play with, and love our dolls, and eventually I began to make dolls of my own. Although my dolls are based upon the principles of Waldorf doll making--natural and sustainably harvested materials (like wool stuffing and cotton interlock), hand spun and dyed wool yarns for hair, hand made doll clothes, 100% wool felt for shoes--my dolls cannot be called strictly Waldorf (more Waldorf-esque), as they have definite personalities, larger & more expressive eyes, and playful mouths. Once Upon A Doll features enchanted dolls made in the Waldorf tradition with a storybook theme for that special child in your life or the discriminating collector of handmade dolls.

Meet Goldie and Bubbles, her pet gold fish

Meet Goldie and her pet gold fish, Bubbles...
Goldie loves everything to do with the water...she loves puddles, ponds, lakes, rivers, the ocean, and even the bath tub!
Goldie's luxurious hair is a stunning combination of two hand spun art yarns, the curly thick and thin ginger by Yarn Rescue and the gorgeous mermaid like yarn with various hues of blue and green by Snowberry & Lime.
Goldie sits and stands quite easily, and wears an adorable pair of bloomers with matching hair bow in limited edition gold fish fabric, made especially for her by Molly's Playground.
Her eyes shimmer with various blues and greens of the sea...
Goldie's shoes are made of 100% wool felt with contrast blue and green stitching...she is all ready to be loved by a special child.

Goldie and Bubbles are ready to go, and will be listed in my Etsy shop for sale sometime today.
Blessings,
Amy

Tris Prior...a custom doll from the Divergent series by Veronica Roth

Beatrice Prior is a very special custom doll--a 16 year old girl who lives in a dystopian future wherein each person chooses his or her own "faction". Although born into Abnegation, Tris (short for Beatrice) chooses Dauntless.
Tris has three tattoos, each highly symbolic: three ravens to signify her family across her collarbone, the Dauntless flames on her left shoulder, and the Abnegation helping hands on her right shoulder.
Her chosen faction is Dauntless--and she is QUITE an adventurous spirit!
Her hair is a stunning mix of three different hand spun mohair art yarns, with incredible shine and dimension. These photos just don't capture its spectacular luminescence!
The Dauntless color is black, and the Dauntless tend to wear showier clothing
(notice how her black spandex dress shows off her tats).
Tris wears a necklace that has the three ravens that symbolize her family flying away (both her parents are dead, and her brother is a traitor), with the phrase "I'll be your family now" (spoken to her by her boyfriend, Four.)

Two new custom doll slots will be listed in my Etsy shop on July 1st!

Thanks so much for sharing the fun,
Amy

Daenerys, Mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones

Meet Daenerys, Mother of Dragons, as a Waldorf-esque doll!
A very special custom doll based on the character Daenerys, Mother of Dragons, from season three of The Game of Thrones.
Daenerys wears the same cape, dress, and leggings she wears in season three,
handmade especially for her by Molly's Playground.
Her hair is a stunning combination of two hand spun merino art yarns with lots of sparkle and orlando boucle yarn, braided into a crown befitting the Mother of Dragons.
She has three needle-felted dragon companions who adore her--
Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal.
Her eyes are violet blue, and her boots are 100% wool felt with contrast stitching...she also sits or stands easily.
Daenerys and her dragons cannot WAIT to travel to their new home!

Watch for an additional custom doll coming SOON---Beatrice (Tris) from the DIVERGENT novels by  Veronica Roth...
Blessings,
Amy

Meet Charlie...a little boy who LOVES to fish!

Charlie is a happy little guy...
13 inches from head to toe (although with his floppy hand spun wool yarn hair he's closer to 15 inches), Charlie loves the outdoors. He hikes, camps, and climbs rocks like a mountain goat...but his favorite adventure of all is fishing.
His luscious hair is made of a mix of hand spun art yarns in different hues of walnut, chesnut, and amber brown, with bright green wool dread high lights I dyed myself...
Charlie wears blue jeans, a brown shirt decorated with a fish, brown suede zip up boots, and comes with two flannel shirts...all made especially for him by Blissality.
He comes with complete fishing gear: wooden fishing pole, three fish, net, pail, and a fisherman's basket (all by Queen's Treasures)...
Charlie sits and stands beautifully...he even stands unassisted when wearing his brown fisherman's boots!
Charlie is a RTG (ready to go) doll who will be uploaded in my Etsy shop tomorrow (Sunday 5/18) at 3 pm PDT. Here's the link:

Two custom dolls for two precious sisters...

Meet Spring and Sakura ("cherry blossom" in Japanese), two custom dolls I just completed for two very special sisters...
Sakura is for the older sister...she loves sushi (as you can see). Her hair is a mix of spectacular hand spun art yarn by Rainbow Twist Shop and a handspun merino I dyed myself. Her outfit was made especially for her by Molly's Playground, and features adorable little geishas in it!
Spring is for the younger sister--a little girl who loves rainbows and monsters, thus her best friend the little rainbow monster (his name is Finian, by the way). Spring's pastel rainbow of hair is a mix of myriad hand spun yarns...I just love her sparkling blue eyes.
Finian the Rainbow monster was specially needle felted for her by 13 Chestnuts!
Sakura comes with a plate of clay sushi, handmade by my son!
Sakura and Spring sit and stand beautifully in their 100% wool felt shoes made with contrast stitching...they will begin their journey home tomorrow.

Thanks so much for the honor of making custom dolls for you to love, girls....
Warmly,
Amy

Meet Jack...a little boy who loves Nightmare Before Christmas

Meet Jack.

He’s a happy little boy with a sparkling personality who loves Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas and his little hand painted wooden Skellington friend most of all.

He is a handmade doll, crafted lovingly in the Waldorf-esque tradition. 13 inches from the top of his head to the bottom of his shoes, he wears QUITE the debonair ensemble: a colorful upcycled Jack Skellington themed t-shirt and embroidered jeans (by Nanerjoy), and a dapper black and white striped jacket with matching black bowtie(by Mollys Playground).

His lush iridescent hair is hand spun black merino wool with curly glistening rainbow yarn highlights! He is stuffed with clean carded local wool and his “skin” fabric is cotton interlock imported from Europe. His eyes and mouth are hand embroidered—notice that mischievous twinkle—and his black and white sneakers have Jack Skellington beads on them.

Jack is intended for adult collectors or children ages five and up, who do not put things in their mouths. His hair, shoes, and Skellington beads pose choking hazards.
I am busily making one more little boy for my upload in my Etsy shop this upcoming weekend…Jack’s friend who will join him in the upload is a boy doll named Charlie, and he LOVES to fish.
More to come soon,
Amy
