Welcome

Welcome! Sit down, peruse these pages, and indulge in the stories my dolls arouse within your imagination...

Once Upon A Doll began with my own love of dolls, especially hand made. My kids and I collect, play with, and love our dolls, and eventually I began to make dolls of my own. Although my dolls are based upon the principles of Waldorf doll making--natural and sustainably harvested materials (like wool stuffing and cotton interlock), hand spun and dyed wool yarns for hair, hand made doll clothes, 100% wool felt for shoes--my dolls cannot be called strictly Waldorf (more Waldorf-esque), as they have definite personalities, larger & more expressive eyes, and playful mouths. Once Upon A Doll features enchanted dolls made in the Waldorf tradition with a storybook theme for that special child in your life or the discriminating collector of handmade dolls.

Two custom dolls for two precious sisters...

Meet Spring and Sakura ("cherry blossom" in Japanese), two custom dolls I just completed for two very special sisters...
Sakura is for the older sister...she loves sushi (as you can see). Her hair is a mix of spectacular hand spun art yarn by Rainbow Twist Shop and a handspun merino I dyed myself. Her outfit was made especially for her by Molly's Playground, and features adorable little geishas in it!
Spring is for the younger sister--a little girl who loves rainbows and monsters, thus her best friend the little rainbow monster (his name is Finian, by the way). Spring's pastel rainbow of hair is a mix of myriad hand spun yarns...I just love her sparkling blue eyes.
Finian the Rainbow monster was specially needle felted for her by 13 Chestnuts!
Sakura comes with a plate of clay sushi, handmade by my son!
Sakura and Spring sit and stand beautifully in their 100% wool felt shoes made with contrast stitching...they will begin their journey home tomorrow.

Thanks so much for the honor of making custom dolls for you to love, girls....
Warmly,
Amy
Once Upon A Doll

P.S....I will be listing two more custom slots in my etsy shop later this week, so watch for them if you have a child for whom you would like me to design a special doll...
