Welcome

Welcome! Sit down, peruse these pages, and indulge in the stories my dolls arouse within your imagination...

Once Upon A Doll began with my own love of dolls, especially hand made. My kids and I collect, play with, and love our dolls, and eventually I began to make dolls of my own. Although my dolls are based upon the principles of Waldorf doll making--natural and sustainably harvested materials (like wool stuffing and cotton interlock), hand spun and dyed wool yarns for hair, hand made doll clothes, 100% wool felt for shoes--my dolls cannot be called strictly Waldorf (more Waldorf-esque), as they have definite personalities, larger & more expressive eyes, and playful mouths. Once Upon A Doll features enchanted dolls made in the Waldorf tradition with a storybook theme for that special child in your life or the discriminating collector of handmade dolls.

Meet Wendy...she wants to be Tinkerbell for Halloween

Meet Wendy, a little doll who LOVES Tinkerbell.

She is a handmade doll, crafted lovingly in the Waldorf tradition. 13 inches from the top of her head to the tip of her toes, she wears an adorable upcycled Tinkerbell dress (made by Nanerjoy). Her lush, long hair is made of hand spun merino wool, with 4 different blonde hand spun yarns in various hues and textures and the most adorable curl! She is stuffed with clean carded local wool and her “skin” fabric is cotton interlock imported from Europe. Her eyes and mouth are hand embroidered—notice that mischievous twinkle and smirk—and her wool felt boots have contrast stitching.
Wendy comes with everything she needs to have a wonderful Halloween: a Tinkerbell themed trick or treat bag (with crayons and paper if she should have a trip in the car), a green sweater (for chilly Halloween nights) and purple sequined fairy wings (by Blissality).
 Wendy can stand and sit!
She loves looking at the sky and dreaming of visiting Neverland...
Wendy is for sale, and just listed in my Etsy shop. She is every excited for a little girl to love her and welcome her home!

Have a wonderful weekend,
Amy

Renesmee Cullen

Once upon a time there was a vampire and a human that fell in love. They married, and (to their surprise) conceived a little half-vampire/ half-human child...that little girl was destined to be Renesmee Cullen, and if you hadn't already guessed it, her famous parents were Isabella (Bella Swan) Cullen and Edward Cullen, of Twilight fame.
(...see the itty bitty vampire fangs?)
Renesmee wears a "Forks High School" shirt, of course, and a skirt decorated with werewolves (for Jacob). The out fit is made by Nanerjoy.

She has gorgeous chocolate brown hair with sprinkling of auburn highlights--and, of course, it SPARKLES!
She loves to hunt in the natural beauty of her home of Forks, Washington. (As you can see, she both stands and sits, too ! )
Renesmee also wears the very special locket given to her by her parents, which reads "plus que ma propre vie" meaning "more than my own life".
Here she is without her blue wool jacket or lace up high boots...sporting a little attitude!

She is all ready to go home to her new mama. Stay tuned for my next little girl to be finished...
A little blonde :)
Here's to a wonderful start to the week!

Two MORE Sneak Peeks...

And so two more little faces join our group of four.

The first little girl has blond hair and wants to dress up as a VERY popular fairy for Halloween...

I'm sure you have no problem guessing her chosen Halloween costume. She has a blond hair, blue eyes, and even a little smirk just like the mischievous pixie she so admires...

And for our last little gal, we have the doll of my own dreams.

I have always loved pumpkins and Jack-o-lanterns, but the only Waldorf dolls I have seen with this theme are "normal" dolls dressed as pumpkins. I decided to break with tradition, and actually make a little doll with all my favorite things....

 GLOWING PUMPKIN EYES

Green Jack-o-lantern eyes seem to GLOW when outlined with candlelight orange embroidery floss...and of course she must have a sequined pumpkin outfit and full bobbed hair in pumpkin patch colors!

Four little faces,
Happy as can be.
Waiting for their arms and hair
So they may play with thee!

Have a wonderful Monday!
Thanks for checking in on our progress,
Amy

Two Sneak Peeks

I'm making four doll heads for four new dolls this week...each doll with its own distinct personality, theme, and style...each doll with its own unusual outfit and accessories...each one quite unique for different tastes.

I've finished two of the faces!

The first is a little boy who LOVES Halloween. He loves the pumpkins...he loves the falling leaves...he loves the spooky ghost stories and haunted houses. But MOST of all he loves dressing up and going trick or treating. This year he has decided to dress as his favorite super hero from the Avengers movie--can you guess who?

Ahhh...I THOUGHT you might be able to guess :) His hair will be sparkly purple hand spun wool yarn, with curly green highlights--messy, of course, just like his alter ego. His outfit was made especially for him by Nanerjoy.

The second little girl who's face I've completed loves Halloween too, I'm sure, but then she is only half human herself. She has chocolate brown eyes (like her mother) with mischievous topaz glints (like her father)...she too has an outfit by Nanerjoy, but this outfit consists of a Forks High School shirt and a werewolf skirt (fabric by Smoking Lily). She also has a very special locket she wears given to her by her famous mother and father that reads: "plus que ma propre vie" which means in French "more than my own life".

OH--and I almost forgot. She has the cutest little itty bitty vampire fangs :)

Renesmee Cullen

Enjoying your little preview???
Two more dolls faces still to go--I wonder who THESE will be?
Hope your weekend is full of wonder,
Amy

Meet "Arisu in Wonderland"

Meet Arisu (that's Alice in Japanese) in Wonderland!

She's SO very happy to meet you! Made with luscious hand spun art yarn hair (in 6 different buttery soft merino wool yarns), Arisu's dress is an imported Japanese fabric featuring the white rabbit and tea cups, of course.

She has a little White Rabbit friend, completely hand made and needle felted out of 100% wool just for her! He decided to leave Wonderland and be with her, since she is so much fun at tea parties!

Arisu is 13 inches tall, and comes with 100% wool felt shoes (with contrasting pink stitching).

Arisu is already sold, but I have many more delightful little Waldorf-esque dolls in the making that will soon be listed in my Etsy shop!

Stay tuned,
Amy

2nd Place Winner...and Asian Eyes

I just thought I'd share the wreath made for the second prize winner in my Grand Re-Opening Giveaway...she has a custom DFH doll that she wanted a wreath designed for--this wreath features genuine topaz, tourmaline, and clear quartz crystal as well as lots of different hand spun art yarns!

And here's my first Asian girl...I'm working on her right now, and I'm rather excited because I succeeded in creating my own style of eyes, rather than simply copying others. What FUN!

Have a Wonderful Weekend!
